2007-2008 REPORT: Neighborhood Planning Groups
The growth of our city depends largely on neighborhood involvement. Therefore, in February of 2008 Opelousas citizens will receive Public Service Announcements and phone calls from the Office of Community Development inviting them to attend neighborhood meetings with their councilman/councilwomen.
Developing these neighborhood groups can be colossal for planning the growth in the City of Opelousas. Many Neighborhood groups are finding that by meeting regularly they find out a lot more about what going on in the city and can actually be a part of planning what happens in their cities.
Leaving your neighborhood because of increasing drugs or crime in your area is not an option when you have neighborhood groups on watch. These groups work together with their city officials and force criminals and drug dealers to leave neighborhoods.
Neighborhood groups from each district will outline how local officials can better serve them and local officials will have the opportunity to educate their constituents on accessing available services and finding solutions to their challenges. We are encouraging Opelousas youth to join these neighborhood groups for input on providing after school and summer activities that are both educational and fun.
