The Opelousas Parks and Recreation Department has an Advisory Board composed of 13 people who represent the community. This board is appointed by the Governing Authority and advises the Governing Authority through the office of the Director of Parks and Recreation.
The Parks and Recreation Department consist of 17 full-time permanent employees and 55 seasonal employees.
This office involves planning, organizing and supervising the employees and the programs of the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Tourism Departments. The Director is responsible for the management of a comprehensive community recreation program, community development/Main Street program, tourism program, public parks, Le View Village, the Welcome Center, the Museum and Interpretive Center. Director uses independent judgment and initiative while working within established policies and procedures set up by the Governing Authority and Parks and Recreation Commission.
