AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC III (DIESEL MECHANIC)

Nature of Work

The work class in this class are at the advanced journeyman level, performing major repairs on automobiles, trucks, tractors, light and heavy equipment, diesel, and other related equipment. The principle class responsibilities are restoring equipment back to service as rapidly as possible ensuring that proper standards ofworkmanship are applied to all repair work. General supervision is received from the Municipal Garage Supervisor and work is evaluated through discussion and proper functioning or repaired equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

Graduation from accredited high school with vocational school and five or more years experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment and light and heavy construction equipment, plus experience in diesel mechanic work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Who May Apply

This position is open to all registered voters of the State of Louisiana, who meet the minimum qualifications for the position. Applicants, when appointed, must move within the 12-mile radius after six months of being certified as permanent. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and are acceptable shall be notified the particulars for the examination. Applicants must submit a copy of their certificaitons at the time of the application.

Military Preference

Five (5) points shall be added to the grade on open entrance examination for all applicants with military service under honorable conditions provided that the points may be added only after a passing grade or score is attained. Applicants claiming preference under the providions of this rule must present discharge papers to the Civil Service Director for inspection.
