Nature of Work
The work class of this class requires routine, semi-skilled work in a wastewater treatment facility. Work involves the upkeep and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment. Employees work around unpleasant odors, toxic chemicals, under varying weather conditions, which includes working rotating 12-hour shifts. General supervision is received from the Wastewater Treatment Supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Graduation from accredited high school or GED, plus experience in mechanical maintenance work; or equivalent comination of training and experience. If the applicant is not a certified operator, he or she must become certified with a Class III or IV Wastewater Treatment Plant certification within the time allotted by the State of Louisiana Licensing Board. Must also have a functional telephone in his residence for on-call duty.

Who May Apply
This position is open to all registered voters of the State of Louisiana, who meet the minimum qualifications for the position. Applicants, when appointed, must move within the 12-mile radius after six months of being certified as permanent. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and are acceptable shall be notified the particulars for the examination. Applicants must submit a copy of their certificaitons at the time of the application.

Military Preference
Five (5) points shall be added to the grade on open entrance examination for all applicants with military service under honorable conditions provided that the points may be added only after a passing grade or score is attained. Applicants claiming preference under the providions of this rule must present discharge papers to the Civil Service Director for inspection.
