Alderman AT-LARGE

Harvey DarbonneHarvey Darbonne

I want to first thank you and the citizens of Opelousas for the opportunity to serve as your alderman-at-large.   I am humbled to represent you, and I will continue to work with my colleagues, businesses and you, our community, to make sure that we address issues that will improve our quality of life.   I want to be a good steward of our resources, and will always represent you with dignity, integrity and honesty.  Family and service to my community have always been prominent in me throughout my adult life, volunteering to improve the quality of life in Opelousas.

In addition to my regular board duties I have served as chairman and member of the various council committees and mayor pro-temp.

I am a retired educator, having earned a BS degree from southern university and a ms degree from Louisiana state university.   My experiences as a classroom teacher and school administrator have prepared me to function effectively in the alderman-at-large position.

My short term goals are to build consensus with businesses and citizens, make city government more transparent and help restore citizen confidence in Opelousas city government.   My long term goals are to facilitate a venue for all citizens to participate in city government, equal distribution of city resources and increased economic development.

My wife Josephine and I are the parents of one daughter Candice.

I look forward to hearing from you about ways I can be of assistance to you.   Please feel free to contact me with your concerns.
