Registering to vote is a right and a privilege for the public of the United States, and Opelousas citizens. Registration does not cost any money, and you need register only once (there is no need to reapply each year). Registering is fast and easy by simply meeting the following requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be 18 years of age on Election Day
- Must reside in Louisiana and St. Landry Parish
- Must register 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that election
- Registration can be done in person at the local Registrar of Voters office or by submitting an application via mail
Voting on Election Day takes place at designated polling places from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. Always bring a pictured ID when going to cast your vote. It is recommended that you vote in the precinct and parish where you are registered to vote.
