CITY OF OPELOUSAS HOSTS 7th ANNUAL

ZYDECO BREAKFAST AUGUST 30

(Opelousas, LA) - The City of Opelousas presents the 7th annual Zydeco Breakfast Saturday, August 30, from 8 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. under the Oak trees surrounding the historical St. Landry Parish Courthouse in downtown Opelousas.  This year festival goers and music lovers will be able to enjoy the sounds of Jeffrey Broussard & the Creole Cowboys.  People attending the free event are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the entertainment in a relaxed and charming setting.

Along with great Zydeco music, Opelousas Main Street, as well as nearby downtown Opelousas restaurants, will feature special breakfast menu items for sale.

Available for purchase on site at the Courthouse Square will be ‘Zydeco Almond Cappuchino’ from Bernice’s Coffee & Gift Shop.  Opelousas Main Street will feature beniets by caterer Joella Leblanc as well as boudin, a favorite Saturday morning breakfast in Southwest Louisiana. Nearby, Back in Time Restaurant, will offer a signature breakfast dish called the “Clifton Chenier,” a ham, egg, and cheese casserole served with garlic cheese grits and your choice of side bread or “couche-couche.”

“The City of Opelousas is proud to host this cultural event which sets the tone for the day of the Original Southwest Zydeco Festival,” said Opelousas Mayor Donald Cravins. “The Zydeco Breakfast offers a unique way to spend a Saturday morning….surrounded by good music, good food, and a great atmosphere.”

Held in conjunction with the Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival in Plaisance, the City of Opelousas, designated “Zydeco Music Capital of the World”, along with Opelousas Main Street hosts the annual downtown event.  This year the Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival celebrates its 26th year.  During the event, drawings for Zydeco festival t-shirts and festival Passes will be held.  In addition, this year’s King and Queen of the 26th Annual Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival will also be on site.
