KARLEE FARRIS OF DERIDDER CROWNED 2010 SPICE & MUSIC FESTIVAL QUEEN

Karlee Farris(Opelousas, LA) – Karlee Farris, a 17-year-old from Deridder, Louisiana, was crowned the 2010 Spice & Music Festival Queen on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Opelousas Civic Center in Opelousas.  A senior at Deridder High School, Farris plans to attend Louisiana College in the fall where she will major in Theatre Arts and minor in Business Marketing.  

Also crowned during the pageant were:   Junior Queen Kimberleigh Stelly of Opelousas, LA; Teen Queen Skylar Wilson of Sunset, LA; Ms. Queen Veronica Bellard, Opelousas, LA; Lady Queen Jacqueline Gradnigo, Opelousas, LA; and Ambassador Queen Katelyn Stelly of Opelousas, LA.

The 6th annual Opelousas Spice & Music Festival is scheduled for June 4-6 in historic downtown Opelousas.  The event offers a unique three day celebration showcasing the area’s authentic Cajun and Creole culture. Scheduled performers include Keith Frank & the Soileau Zydeco Band, Chris Ardoin & NuStep, Pine Leaf Boys, Roddie Romero & the Hub City All Stars, Lil Nathan & the Zydeco Big Timers, Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie, Kevin Naquin & the Ossun Playboys and more.

Other exciting events include Cajun and Creole cooking demonstrations, a Fiddle Jam Workshop with Hadley Castille and Friends and a Creole Workshop on the History of Jure’ members of the Broussard family.  Additional events include a Bar-B-Que Cook Off, Cajun & Zydeco Dance Contest and a Pepper Eating Contest.  In conjunction with this year’s official festival poster artist, Adrian Fulton, the nearby Opelousas Museum & Interpretive Center will host a special exhibit opening on Saturday, June 5th at 11:00 a.m. 

And of course, the Spice & Music Festival will offer Cajun and Creole food lovers plenty of mouthwatering dishes including entrees like etoufee, boudin, jambalaya, fried catfish and more.
