Opelousas Spice & Music Pageant Scheduled for Saturday, May 8
(Opelousas, LA) –The 2010 Opelousas Spice and Music Festival Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Opelousas Civic Center located on Creswell Lane, Opelousas, Louisiana.
The pageant is open to all contestants, ages 12 years old and older. This year, there is a division for Ladies. Contestants in this category must be over 21 years old and can be single, married or divorced. In addition, they must be plus size and Fabulously Fit.40 years old and older or of plus size statue wearing a dressy casual outfit. All other divisions will wear evening gowns.
Categories include Junior, Teen, Miss, Ms./Mrs. and Lady. Entry fee for the Junior Division is $50.00 with all other divisions being $75.00. Early deadline to enter is April 30, 2010. Entries will be accepted at the door on the day of the pageant. Entry forms can be obtained online at www.opelousasspiceandmusicfestival.com. This year’s pageant sponsors are Cal Chlor and Casa Ole’.
In 2009, Ruth Fruge was crowned Miss Opelousas Spice & Music Festival. A native of Kinder, Louisiana, Fruge attends the Louisiana Honors College in Natchitoches, majoring in sociology. She is also a cheerleader for Northwestern State University.
Other royalty which represented the festival this past year included Ms. Spice & Music Festival Becky Richard, Teen Spice & Music Festival C’Quoya Haughton, and Ambassador Little Miss Spice & Music Festival Kimmy Richard.
The 6th annual Opelousas Spice & Music Festival is scheduled for June 4-6, 2010, in historic downtown Opelousas. The event offers a unique three day celebration showcasing the area’s Cajun and Creole culture. This year’s festival will feature musical acts such as Keith Frank & the Soileau Zydeco Band, Pine Leaf Boys, Chris Ardoin & Nustep, Lil Nathan & the Zydeco Big Timers, Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie, Roddie Romero & the Hub City All Stars, Step Rideau & the Zydeco Outlaws.
