Good Morning to All and the Citizens of Opelousas,

I pray and hope all is well with each of you and your families. As we enter Holy Week, our lives are altered by the effects of COVID-19. We are battling an enemy that has no friends and does not discriminate. Age makes no difference and race is irrelevant. What is relevant is how we handle our business and what we can do Today to make tomorrow Better.

I also ask that you continue to do your part to help control the spread of COVID-19 by adhering to the guidelines set in place by state and federal orders. This includes sheltering in place. If you need to leave your home, we ask that you limit your time in public places and remain at least six feet away from others. Please avoid congregating in groups larger than 10. And please respect the curfew that has been set in place, which is 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. As a community we are in this together, so make a call and check in on your neighbor. This is not easy: however, what WE are confronting will come to pass. We will get through this together, but how soon depends a lot on US. What ‘WE’ do today will dictate what we can do tomorrow.

I want to thank ALL of the many people who are on the front lines in the battle against COVID-19. These include our health care workers, paramedics, first responders, janitors and maintenance staff, grocery store workers-and there are many more on this list. We appreciate your commitment to your jobs, service and community. You are heroes to so many. We Thank You and I ask God to Continue to Bless You All.

Let me also thank the city employees, which also includes our fire fighters and law enforcement, who continue to protect our residents and citizens. You continue to stay the course even in the face of adversity. Thank you too. To the citizens we will continue to give city services to best of our abilities, being mindful of all and working safely for all. We are all in this together, so let’s fight this enemy Together.

In closing I would like to add: Be Humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves, Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others too.
