Dear Opelousas Citizens,
I hope all is well and may God be with each of you this week. As our residents and businesses are faced with exceptional challenges that are unfolding due to COVID-19, we are seeing many acts of compassion and generosity taking place in our community.
With that said, I would like to thank Big Brown (UPS), NuNu’s Creole Traditions (Joella Leblanc), and Building Better Families (Madelynn Rosette and Jeremy Richard) for their efforts related to the Meals for Kids event held Saturday at the Opelousas Civic Center.
I’d like to also recognize the following for their support as well: Bully Box Organization (Shauna Sias and Paula Jordan) and their members, Super One Foods, Piggly Wiggly, and Targil Seasoning. A personal thank you to the volunteers who came out to assist as well. I think we handed out some 350 meals and drinks to families at the Civic Center during the drive-by event.
The city is truly grateful to these entities and their willingness to help give assistance to those in need during very challenging times. These community acts of kindness will aid in relieving some of the pressures that families in our community are experiencing. Again, on behalf of the city, I thank each of you for your community support. We all hope everyone enjoyed the meals. Stay safe, by staying home, which saves lives. Be smart, disciplined, and practice safety measures. If we do this together, tomorrow will be better. Have a good even week.
Julius Alsandor, Mayor
