EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II
Pay Range 8 . . . . . . . Hourly Salary $9.69 . . . . . Annual Salary $20,155.20
Work in this class involves operating a medium weight or complex automotive, maintenance, or construction equipment. Employees may work along city streets or in hazardous situations which require the exercise of skill and care in handling equipment. Work may include irregular operations of bull-dozers, backhoe and/or boom truck in laying water and sewer lines and other projects. Incumbent must have knowledge of the requirements of the work in an efficient and safe manner. The operator may also supervise the members of a crew assigned to a specific task. Routine assignments are usually performed under general supervision in accordance with established procedures and practices. Special assignments are performed under direct supervision or specific instruction.
Minimum qualification requirements:
Ability to read and write with some experience in the operation of equipment similar to those described herein; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess the appropriate class commercial driver’s license as required by the State of Louisiana if assigned equipment is operated on streets, highways median, or roadsides.
Who may Apply:
This examination is open to all citizens living within 12-mile radius who meeting the minimum qualifications for the position. Applicants whose qualifications are acceptable will be notified the particulars for the examination.
How to Apply:
Applications must be received from the Civil Service Office, City Hall, Opelousas, LA. All questions on said application must be answered and failure to do so may result in applicant receiving a lower score, or rejection of the application. All applications must be signed, mailed, or delivered to the Civil Service Office. Will post until first three applicants are received.
Five (5) points shall be added to the grade on open entrance examination for all applicants with military service under honorable conditions provided that the points may be added only after a passing grade or score is attained. Applicants claiming preferences under the provisions of the rule must present discharge papers to the Civil Service Director for inspection. Eligibility for military preference as stated herein shall be determined by the Director in accordance with provisions of Section (1) (9) of Article XIV, of the Louisiana Constitution or amendments thereto.
