NATURE OF WORK
Position coordinates the work of maintenance, and repair of wastewater pipelines, lift stations, and related installations. Incumbent may be responsible for working as Lift Station repairman and or wastewater collection repairman. Participates in the installation, construction, repair and unstopping sewer mains, service lines, and manholes. May require manual labor work such as unloading of materials, working and cleaning equipment and tools, painting and cutting grass. Perform related work as required by waste water supervisor.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or GED experience in maintenance and repair of waste water collection systems, and maintenance of lift stations; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Maintain a functional telephone in his/her residence. Must obtain and maintain a Class I, Class II and a Class III in Wastewater Collection within 4 years of employment. Ability to maintain a valid driver license as administered by the State of Louisiana.
Who May Apply
This position is open to all registered voters of the state of Louisiana, who meet the minimum qualification for the position. Applicant, when appointed, must move within the 12 miles radius after six months of being certified as permanent. Applicants whose qualifications are acceptable shall be notified the particulars for the examination.

Applications must be received from the Civil Service Office, City Plaza, 105 North Main Street, Opelousas, LA. All questions on said application must be answered and failure to do so may result in applicant receiving a lower score, or rejection of the application. All applications must be signed and delivered to the Civil Service Director at her office at 105 North Main Street, City Hall. Applicants must submit a copy of their certifications at the time of application. Applications must be received in the Civil Service Office until three qualified candidates are received.
Five (5) points shall be added to the open entrance examination and three (3) points shall be added for promotional examination for all applicants with military service under honorable conditions provided that the points may be added only after a passing grade or score is attained. Applicants claiming preference under the provisions of this rule must present discharge papers to the Civil Service Director for inspection.
