Tropical Storm Francine Update – Hurricane Preparedness

Opelousas is taking proactive steps as Tropical Storm Francine is now projected to become a Category 2 Hurricane. Here’s what we’re doing:

  • Clearing debris from road crossings and drainage channels.
  • Ensuring generators are ready at water and sewer facilities.
  • Working with contractors to secure job sites and minimize potential debris.

We need your help, too!

  • Secure loose objects around your property, including trampolines.
  • Remove debris from near catch basins.
  • Sandbags: St. Landry Parish has a sandbag site at the Yambilee Building open until 7pm today and from 8am-7pm on Tuesday. Bring your own shovel and help.
  • Do NOT place any branches or yard debris curbside until AFTER the storm.

Remember: Hurricane preparedness is year-round. Stay alert and have an emergency plan in place, including for potential power outages. We’ll continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
