J.S. Clark Memorial Walkway

The J.S. Clark Memorial Walkway pays tribute to the former educators and students of the high school in Opelousas which served black students from 1953-1969 before desegregation. The school was named in honor of Joseph Samuel Clark, the first president of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

While J.S. Clark was opened for less than 20 years, it produced a generation of graduates who became leaders in a wide range of occupations. From teachers, doctors, attorneys, to a college president, many were considered trail blazers.  It was also the school attended by former 1972 Gold Olympic Track Medalist Rodney Milburn.  The walkway was funded by J.S. Clark Alumni Association and dedicated in October 2014.

J.S. Clark Memorial Walkway

Clark Alumni Association.
