In 1917, the Christman family opened their new bakery on Landry Street. Soon after they opened a restaurant and hotel, known as the Waldorf, a popular hotel of its day. May social affairs took place at the Waldorf, as well as meetings, banquets and other events. The building was demolished in 1984 in order to have a parking lot in downtown Opelousas. If you park on that lot today you can still see remnants the old tile floor, a remembrance of old Opelousas.
