CITY OF OPELOUSAS TO HOST TRICK OR TREAT TRAIL ALONG SOUTH CITY PARK WALKING TRAIL
(Opelousas, LA) — The City of Opelousas will offer a safe and spook-tacular Halloween experience this year with a Trick or Treat Trail on October 30, from 4- 6 p.m. at South City Park located at 1524 Market Street. The trail event, which utilizes the new walking trail at the park, is free and aims to provide the community with an alternative to traditional door to door trick-or-treating, keeping safety and social distancing in mind.
Local businesses and organizations will set up along the walking trail at the park. As trick or treaters stroll through the trail, members of these businesses and organizations will hand out treats and other goodies. Other activities planned include costumed characters, monster mash music and a huge spider web designed by MACA art students.
A Safe Halloween Trick or Treat event was historically held at Le Vieux Village; however, this year’s event will utilize the new walking trail at South Park allowing more space for social distancing and activities as well as offer more event parking space. The event is designed for kids ages 12 and under. Attendees with special needs will be able to access the trail beginning at 3:30 p.m.
“Once again this year it is even more important to celebrate Halloween safely,” said Mayor Alsandor. “Rather than having our children go door to door for tricks and treats, we are offering a safer alternative. Our goal is to make sure children can enjoy this occasion without putting themselves or others at risk.”
Opelousas Mayor Julius Alsandor and the City Council, along with Opelousas Police Department and the City Marshal’s office are dedicated to providing family-oriented events to residents by offering citizens a fun way to spend time in their community. The Trick or Treat Trail is also being made possible with the support of many local businesses and organizations.
